Musicians Institute Announces 2022 Takamine Scholarship Winner Jia-Ming Tsai

All of us at Takamine extend our congratulations to Jia-Ming Tsai, recipient of the prestigious 2022 Takamine Acoustic Guitar Scholarship. The award, which includes a Takamine G Series GN93CE guitar, was presented by Musicians Institute and The Musicians Foundation.

Jia-Ming comes to MI’s Guitar Program from Taiwan with ten years of guitar playing and performing experience in multiple genres and a specialization in Pop and Rock styles. He states, "I want to learn Jazz the most, but also want to learn many other styles, perform on stage and jam with people at MI!"

What does winning this scholarship award mean to him? Jia-Ming shared, "It encouraged me a lot to win an acoustic guitar scholarship! Although I play electric guitar the most, I also really love the acoustic guitar, and I had the opportunity to play a lot of gigs with a vocalist in Taiwan. One vocal + one acoustic guitar duo format sounds really good to me and I enjoy that a lot."

Featuring Takamine's NEX-style body, the GN93CE is an acoustic-electric guitar with a solid spruce top, black walnut sides and a beautiful three-piece black walnut/quilt maple back. It includes the onboard Takamine TK-40D preamp system with built-in tuner, three-band EQ and gain controls, mid contour switch, notch filter and EQ bypass switch for the ultimate in versatility and sound quality. Other premium features include maple binding, abalone dot inlays, and gold die-cast tuners with black buttons.

Jia-Ming would like to take his MI experience and education and work toward becoming a session player, and to have a band that performs original songs. Once again, we're glad to work with our industry partners at Musicians Institute to help support the next generation of great guitarists!
