A Whole New World: Exploring Alternate Tunings on Your Takamine

Imagine going through all the trouble to painstakingly learn dozens of chords, scales, and riffs on your guitar, and then changing the tuning of its strings so that nothing made sense anymore. Why, that might lead to… opening your mind to entirely new sounds that you could never get in standard tuning. LA based songwriter, producer, session ace, and Takamine player Steve Postell joined them on their most recent album as well as in a film documentary, and is now touring doing the music of CSNY.

Guitar of the Month: G Series GC3

Nylon-string classical guitars often seem to fall into just two categories: fine, handcrafted instruments that can be cost prohibitive for many musicians, or “beginner’s guitars” that are hard to play, don’t stay tuned, and are simply weak sounding. Enter the Takamine G Series GC3, a lovely classical guitar that features solid-top construction, a beautiful gloss finish, and all the full, rich nylon-string sound players have come to expect from Takamine’s acclaimed classical guitars. And, unlike nearly any nylon string classical guitar in its price range, the GC3 both fits your budget and has the playability and sound you’ve been seeking.

Compact Body, Huge Sound:
Takamine's New Yorker Guitars

The story of Takamine’s compact New Yorker shape goes back a long way, to a time when it was common to keep a musical instrument in a small room of one’s home where guests could enjoy hearing or playing some music while they visited… hence the concept of the parlor guitar. Designed as a full scale guitar that’s perfect for smaller spaces — like a big city apartment, hence the name — Takamine’s New Yorker is both super comfortable to play and offers a distinctively airy and sweet tone that’s fantastic for singer-songwriters or for recording guitar tones that need to stand out in a mix.
